Management restructuring at SMS group India
The region India & Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing steel market worldwide. To accompany this impressive growth story SMS group has proactively reinforced its local management team and implemented an organizational restructuring to support operational efficiency.
Effective October 1, 2023, Marco Asquini will become CEO Region (APAC & MEA) and Managing Director SMS India Pvt. Ltd. He is taking over from Ulrich Greiner Pachter. Sumendra Jain, CFO Region India & Asia Pacific, will be interim CEO for the region. Marco joined SMS group in 2005 as President and CEO of SMS group S.p.A. Italy, and in 2021, he became CEO Region Italy, Middle East and Africa. In his new role based in India, Marco will lead the fast-growing Region together with the Regional Management (CFO & CSO).
In alignment with our forward-facing approach, and due to the significant growth potential, we have also implemented a strategic change to bring the Middle East and Africa (MEA) within the Regional responsibilities of India and Asia Pacific Countries (APAC) . The newly formed Region APAC & MEA (India & Asia Pacific, plus Middle East and Africa) will foster greater cross-collaboration between local customer and investor groups working under one SMS Regional framework.
Bernhard Steenken, Head of Center of Excellence (CoE) SMS digital, has been appointed as new Chief Sales Officer (CSO) for the Region India & Asia Pacific (new Region APAC & MEA), starting on October 1, 2023. He will be taking over the position from Dr. Pino Tese.
